Ashford Kiwi Spinning Wheel
I admit it... I have become a total fiber addict since I started spinning yarn. I recently took the plunge to upgrade from my drop spindle to a spinning wheel. After some research and consultation with fellow spinners, I decided to go with an Ashford Kiwi. I still use my drop spindle for some stuff, especially since I don't have a jumbo flyer on my wheel yet (that will be my next investment). But having a wheel has helped increase the amount of yummy yarn I'm able to output. The Kiwi wheel was the most affordable one on the market, it's tiny, light-weight, and able to be expanded upon in the future. I purchased an unfinished one, and plan to work on finishing the wood this spring/summer, as I can't do that inside with the fumes and it is coooold outside right now! I got my wheel from http://paradisefibers.net. Shipping was free and it came with 20 bucks of free fiber (which didn't really go a long way on their site... their fiber is pricey!). Thus far, I'm really happy with it. And spinning has become more and more of a positive coping mechanism for me. The soft clicks of the wheel as it spins, the feel of the fiber between my fingers, and the soothing smell of the wool provide a full sensory experience. So, if you're a spinner contemplating transitioning from your spindle to a wheel, I highly recommend it! And I definitely recommend the Ashford Kiwi! |
